Morphizm Meets Wired: Frank Miller's 300
But the new issue of Wired on the stands right now is a nice reminder that I have been making a living at this sort of thing. Truly, I am most happy about my team-up with Wired's new entertainment editor and all-around angel Nancy Miller on the legendary Frank Miller's not-so-legendary comic revision of the legendary Spartan battle at Thermopylae, and the film that new jack Zack Snyder is building from its blood-spattered pages. From Wired:
A Spartan’s Last Stand
"Frank Miller was just 6 years old when he first saw The 300 Spartans, a Cold War-era sword-and-sandals flick based on the ancient battle of Thermopylae, which pitted King Leonidas and his 300 men against a vast Persian army. Thirty-five years later, the mastermind behind Sin City and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns re-created that epic struggle as a gritty, blood-soaked graphic novel. Now, director Zack Snyder (2004’s Dawn of the Dead) is bringing his brutally violent, brilliantly stylized, R-rated adaptation of Miller’s work to the big screen..." MORE
Good times. Got to interview Snyder in Pasadena about 300 and, more importantly, the legendary Alan Moore's canonical Watchmen -- that's a lot of legends -- which Zack is reportedly filming starting in July. That's some crazy shit, especially since the cast hasn't been announced yet. Either way, I've got some more on that tip coming up on Morphizm, and might be blogging on Wired about it in the weeks to come.
And you fucking know I'm going to be an interested participant to the fullest extent I can. I am, after all, a man changed by Watchmen, like millions before me. It's going to be the most debated film of the year. And probably the most debated film for years after that. Just like the comic. Stay tuned, suckers.
