Sia's Problems Are Your Pleasures
Expect a lot more music coming out of Camp Morphizm in 2008. First, I have a nice radio station on the right rail, packed with tight jams from across the spectrum and across history. But I'm also writing on more music this year for a variety of new pubs, including Metromix, Tribune's new online city guide. My first review is of Sia Furler's excellently titled effort, which is excerpted below for your chillout pleasure:[Scott Thill, Metromix]

Not as acrobatic as Mariah or Xtina nor as mall-poppy as Nelly Furtado, she has the type of adult-alternative cred that can rock a Starbucks or inflame hormones at the club. Better yet, she likes to tease brains as well as bodies. "Academia" finds Furler deviating from the standard heartbreak ballad to deliver a mournful rap about language and split infinitives with the help of frequent collaborator Beck. "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine" is funnier than anything a Mouseketeer grad could come up with, and its pogo-inducing funk might scare of the Sarah McLachlan fans into a yoga retreat...
